What is a ‘Division’?
Which one am I in?
Which one will I be in for the overall Series Pointscore?
(read on......)

Divisions are simply a way of grouping competitors according to a criterion.

The Summer Development Series will recognise two divisions for award purposes:

Intermediate level times have been established for all Series events.  If your best long course time achieved for an event since 1 October 2005 is equal to or better than the Intermediate Level time (see below) then you are recognised as being at the Intermediate level for that event.

Note: Intermediate Level times, based on the 100m ACT Championships qualifying time, have been established for the Summer Series for 50m backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, as there are no equivalent ACT Championships QTs for these events.

If I have a Birthday during the Series .....

If a swimmer changes age groups during the course of the Series their status will be reviewed according to the break times applying to the new age group.

Meet Entry Times

Your entry times should be your best long course time established since 1 October 2005.

Series Points

Series points are awarded against times established at Series meets. Points will be calculated using the swimmer’s Series Time.

Tracking Progress

Each swimmer will receive a Series booklet at the first Series meet they attend. This booklet contains information about the Series. It has spots for swimmers to track their Series swims including the level they have reached (Intermediate or ACT Championship Qualified) and the points they gained for each swim. Swimmers are encouraged to track their progress and their standing in the Series.

Other Series Information

Series pointscores will be posted as soon as possible following each meet.
Note: Swimmers will not have been separated into overall development or intermediate level during the Series. This will occur at the end of the Series.

At the end of the Series will I be Intermediate or Development for the Pointscore?

This is a good question and depends on each swimmer’s status at the end of the Series.   Any swimmer who is deemed to have five (5) or more, out of the nine (9) 50m and 100m freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly and the 200 IM events, classified as equal to or better than the Intermediate Level Time, will be an Intermediate level swimmer as far as the Series goes overall.    Other swimmers will be Development level.

Don't worry if you change age groups or between Development and Intermediate during the Series because all the points gained throughout the Series will stay with you. At the end of the Series your age on the day of the last meet and your status (Intermediate or Development) will determine which group you fall into and your final ranking will be worked out using all the points you gained during the Series.   If a swimmer does not swim an event during the Series, their current best long course time as at the date of the last Series meet will be taken into account and used to calculate the overall division for the swimmer.

Helping your Race Secretary

Please ensure that you know when your club Race Secretary is closing off entries for each Series meet and help them by getting your entries in on time.
